Solar PV systems are made up of a few key components:
Solar panels: convert sunlight into Direct Current or DC energy using photo voltaic technology. The higher wattage the panels are, the more energy they produce.
Inverters: convert the energy collected from DC to useable Alternating Current or AC energy; which is what your electric utility provides .
Racking: secures the panels to the roof, ground or pole.
Solar panels convert the sunlight into DC energy. Then the inverters convert that into AC energy. If you’re currently consuming energy, you will use that energy produced by your panels. If you’re consuming less energy then you are producing, that energy will be sent back to your power company (if you are tied to the grid). This is when your meter spins backwards!
